As part of Athena Enterprises, the Athena Institute for Mechanistic Science (AIMS) is involved in a number of basic science projects aimed at integrating neuroscience with social science using a mechanistic framework. AIMS projects share a common goal of advancing social science knowledge and evaluating the state of the field. Please see here (hyperlink publication page) for a list of our latest publications.

MURI Cognitive Security

Both Sarah R Bostrom and K. Ryan Proctor are engaged as research scientists on a multi-university grant on cognitive security with the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). The USAFA team is responsible for empirically evaluating the state of relevant findings in the field of criminology and building a mechanistic framework to explain the phenomenon of disinformation informed by the results. The framework integrates the humanities (e.g., communications) and social sciences (e.g., criminology, sociology, psychology, and political science) with neuroscience to generate a true causal explanation that enables prediction, explanation, and control. This theoretical work will inform extensive empirical testing in later years of the project.

The Athena Institute for Mechanistic Science engages in basic science research and offers consulting services in a number of areas.
